It is interesting that back in 1938 when the design brief was being finalised for the Mosquito, Geoffrey de Havilland suggested that wood should be used as it should remain plentiful during the war, rather than building it out of difficult to source "strategic" materials. De Havilland already had the technology to do this from the DH88 "Grosvenor House" twin engined racers.
Apparently a bigger influence was the thought to make a bomber version of
this but with 2 Merlins...
