Andy, chips are virtually unavoidable. Especially when the resurfacing with loose chippings is going on (
). Touch up paint is a must. I spray Dinitrol under the wings. It stays pliable and offers some protection but not 100%. Have a look at DaveW sections on fitting mudflaps etc under the wings.
Even the clear films on the paintwork have limits for protection.
