They are firm when new and are cheap to replace just ensure the replacement turnbuckle is not plastic and chrome coated, get the nickle and chrome plated ones
The screws holding the turnbuckle to the car are chrome on brass and as such can be weak and snap off so be careful.
Turnbuckles are available in 2 'heights' so as to take 1 or 2 layers of tonnau / hood
ALSO worth thinking about a gasket under the turnbuckle as unfortunately morgan are happy with metal on metal
