I have A Thor Hide Hammer, and MG Lever (as Jays) but find the best and cheapest is a Hard Rubber Mallet.

It is the type used for erecting Beach Wind Breaks. OK, bits will chip off but they are so cheap to replace when my first one eventually fails. It is also kind to the spinners

MWS offer a range of wooden devices but I have never used any of them.
