Inside the bellhousing is a small 'prop-like' shaft; called the quill shaft. this is connected to the front of the gearbox (over the toothed splined shaft shown is photo) and the front of the quilt shaft is a 1 inch or so diameter 'rod' that does through the clutch and teeth connect it to the clutch.
This quill shaft is often 'stuck' to gearbox and comes out with box; good if it does.
You must be careful not to allow weight of gearbox to drop down with quill shaft still engaged at both ends - it can quite easily bend the clutch bar-end
