I agree with you.
Problems such as these should not be present on a car costing the amount you had to pay for it and wait 9 months to get your hands on.
However, your initial dis-appointment will be more than compensated by the amount of pleasure you will get from driving it and I think this is what MMC rely on.
My car is now well over 4 years old (built late 2012 and number 385) and I have had most (if not all) of the problems encountered by us early takers (including needing a new engine at 1700 miles when an un-loctited screw in the air filter vibrated out and got sucked into one of the cylinders, bending the inlet valve and embedding itself in the piston crown). Reliability is of constant concern to me.
Having said that, I do still get immense pleasure from driving it but many of my friends (who, I must add, have not driven one or travelled as a passenger) continually tell me that I must be mad when you consider what other cars you could buy for less money than we paid for our M3W's, and not have to wait 9 months for them.
