If enough of German manufacturing industry needs the UK to have a sensible trade relationship with the EU then perhaps"Mutti Merkle" will be able to lean on the people in the Brussels Bubble to start talking sense.
But I'm not very hopeful.
Nor I. Although the UK is 3rd in the list of countries to whom Germany exports, at EUR86Bn, we represent only just over 7% of their total export trade value of EUR1.2Tn. Similarly, our exports to them represent less than 4% of their total imports.
When Brexit buggers up their ability to do business with us, I suspect they'll simply do business elsewhere, it won't be worth the hassle of dealing with our red tape.
As Robbie says, once we're out of the EU we won't get any of the advantages of being inside, it's inconceivable that we could expect otherwise.
