Thanks guys I have taken note of your comments and the panel is now off the car, as it was damaged I cut it in half at the top and bottom and it was only brute force that was needed to remove it as there were no other fixings.
I am not looking forward to fixing the new panel when it arrives and I just hope that I will not have to do any panel beating to get it on otherwise it will be in the same state as the one I have taken off!
