If you zoom into the K&N sticker on the image, it says "The use of a K&N air filter will not void your vehicle's warranty"
I wasn't thinking of the use of the component, more of the scenario that would present to the dealer. Try and imagine how it would look from their point of view.
Someone buys a car. They take it away and start fiddling with it. They then bring it back with a fault and say "You must fix this under warranty".
In this particular case we know that the chafed wire was observed during the execution of the modification, but it's possible that the dealer might be thinking that it's damage caused as a result of it.
Would their response be more likely to be "Of course sir, we'll fix it for your and bear the cost" or is it going to be "Well, if sir wanted an aftermarket air filter then sir should have asked us to do it"?
As I said, it's a simple problem with an easy fix, why bother about warranty claims for something so trivial?
