Dave,
When I renewed the king pins last year, the new S/S ones still had the oiler hole in the top of the shaft.
It was definitely larger than one mm, probably about 2 to 3 mm in dia. It terminated a distance down the shaft at a machined groove around the circumference of the shaft. That is where the oil would then dribble out and down the pin to the disk rotors!
I did some research on the mater at the time and there was information that the hole could be further drilled out to enable grease to be channelled down the kingpin and emerge not at the machined groove, but to go further down the shaft, and emerge at the exact position of the top bush.

This is I believe the situation with the modern cars! drive

I did consider this option at the time, having taken the hub, kingpins and bushes into a local machine shop for expert fitting.
It was then that I found out about not greasing the top nipple.
I felt that the existing work would surfice and that the car would function fine with out the additional machining?
Time will tell
Peter
