For the 8 years I owned my '76 4/4 the diff used to regularly clout the rear parcel shelf (particularly when loaded for touring). I never worried about it. Had I kept the car longer, I might have considered replacing the springs. Suggest you look into 4 leaf 4 seater springs if you carry a lot of kit, should your springs be suffering from wear/age.
