Seems to be a standard thing now Jon, along with not changing down on approach to such things as roundabouts (until the last second).
Yes, it's strange, isn't it? I was always taught to be in the correct gear at all times, so that one could accelerate or brake as required if something untoward happens. Now apparently you're supposed to stay in a high gear all the time you are slowing down.
