Thanks for the suggestions everyone. In the end we went to the Pig in Brockenhurst and had a great evening. It is as Peter said a little quirky its restaurant very bistro belying the rather grand country house exterior, but it worked well. The menu was again different and sourced from a 25 mile radius so plenty of fish as well as meat, mostly pork ( what a surprise). A very enjoyable experience which I would happily repeat!
