Also could be residue from over greasing the wheel splines when mounting the wheel forces the overage to escape by any means possible.
I had it on my 2012 and during the first month of driving when everything heated up I was wondering where all the grease was coming from. Finally removed one of the wheels and there was way too much in there trying to escape!
