Order a Bluetooth, if you have Android,or WiFi, if you have Apple,OBD3 adaptor. You can find them in Amazon. I have Android and use the app Torque Pro. With this you can find out what the error is and reset it.

It is worthwhile paying the small fee for the Pro version but the free version will still do.

I don't believe that disconnecting the battery will reset the error.
