My 2002 Plus8 had light on issues. Random intermittent misfire causing it. My Maxiscan rest it. I could not find a reason....plugs, connectors etc all ok.
I tried V-Max petrol and it stopped happening.
It has only occured a couple of times over last 4 years since but only after putting standard 95 octane in.....until today!
I was down to less than halfway from zero to 1/4 so stopped at a Murco petrol station and saw they had 97 octane so put 4 gals in . Within 1/4 mile the light came on. Engine running fine. When home 4 miles later the Maxiscan showed the same fault...random intermittent misfire. Makes me wonder about the petrol in the 97 octane pump!
I would advise checking the fault with an obd reader/reset tool.
From what you described it could be the pipe you hit has disturbed/damaged a sensor. An OBD tool should narrow it down.
As the engine was running ok it is unlikely to be a crtical sensor.
