I would now be sizing up the shoe ends, common was they were not original size, and there was to much travel for slave pistons to reach the shoe end.
With the shoes adjusted push back the pistons and see how much gap you have, in each case 4x shoes with a 2mm gap each is a lot, we used to cure it by fusing some weld on the shoe end then refiling to shape.
