Recently had drive of Nigel Pitts Brooklands M3W fitted with a pair of Michelin Commander II 110/90 B 19 tyres and was most impressed. My M3W has Blockleys that I have always thought were considerably better that the original Avon SM's but these are another step. The steering is lighter, the cornering more confident and the braking greatly improved with no locking of wheels until you really lean on the brakes.
Both Nigel's car and mine are running with ATR adjustable shocks and I would say that these help with the ride greatly. The less flexible sidewalls of the Michelins transmit more road irregularities but the shocks can be softened a click or two to compensate and restore a comfortable ride, something that wouldn't be possible with the standard Spax.
As Nigel's car has only done a few miles with the new tyres we cannot say how they will wear. These tyres are normally used on Cruiser type bikes front wheels and all the reviews give them good marks for durability, they have a harder compound in the centre and softer on the edge to give a longer life and good cornering grip. The cost of the tyres is comparable to the Blockleys and Avons, sightly cheaper actually. They fit under the mudguards but don't fill them as much as the Blockleys, you can remove the wheels without taking the mudguards off though, so a better fit really. The speedo will be further out with something like 8% error as against 6% with the Blockleys. I would say these tyres are well worth considering if you don't mind that they don't have a "traditional" look.
