When my daughter was young I used to tell her if she wanted to get married I’d give her a fiver and a pack of sandwiches to elope, I also used to say that if Olivia Newton John turned up at the door asking for me I was off but that’s another story.
After living and having family together, when her and her husband decided to get married they were going to have a small wedding with family but when that started to grow arms and legs she started to stress out and in the end “ran off” to Gretna Green (with our blessing) with only one couple in attendance.
They saved a lot of money and allowed us to give them much more in way of a present, I guess the moral of the story being plant the seed early and save a lot of stress all round.
