I am not sure about these stats as being specifically related to causation. For example if a drunk steps in front of bus and is killed, is that recorded as a road accident or alcohol induced?

The paper by David Nutt bought about his immediate dismissal by the Blair governement.

Does the ingestion of ethyl aclohol have any health benefits? No evidence to support this trope but plenty of support by the drink industry. They are trying to sell the stuff after all.
