Must admit to being rather bemused by this thread. Many years ago we (Volvo Dealer Training in Daventry) had a gearbox on the back of one our running engine training rigs. It had a Perspex panel on one side to show the operation of the box under running conditions. The amount of oil ‘throw’ always amazed delegates so I am struggling to see how a minimal reduction in oil level can affect shift quality? What on Earth happens during cornering or under braking? Once even gear oil gets hot it soon thins a bit and sloshes (technical term ;-)) all over the place.
