I went the same way as Chris but put the males on the bonnets as it seems more intuitive pulling the catch down to engage them rather than across.

Yes, much better idea...the Wolf had better watch out!
May I also suggest that a rubber grommet is slid over the the rod, close to the top end so that if the rod happens to slip out of the hand, it will not damage paintwork on the wing.
