I think it's both. It appears to stop the wing tops splaying. I've removed mine a couple of times and just refitted it with the wing position as the guide. I imagine the main flex is during use. It might be worth measuring the distance first to make sure it goes back exactly.




Before I remove the crossbar I mark the position of the nuts with a dab of white paint, I can then position it exactly as it came off on replacement.
