I like your Quads very much, Peter. Never listened to them, I think your newer ones have KT88 instead of KT66 power tubes?

Yes Richard, those were the days. And the cameramen and the technicians in mobile use, so where you were obviously also engaged, did such a great job back then. Because you often experience a lightness of image when watching these films that makes you forget that it was equipment weighing hundreds of kilos that was needed.
BTW I love the pic with the DS

In my small collection I have an original little Quad tube preamp stored (without mains transformer but for connection to one of the two mono power amplifiers) which still works properly.

About 25 to 30 years ago I had made some trips with a rented minivan to London, where I was looking for well preserved hifi toys or I restored some of them myself. There was no internet as common as today but a city magazine. I think it was called Loots. There I found what I was looking for. Three pairs of old Quad II mono tubes, two pairs of ESL 57, three Leak Stereo 20's. Les helped me to find one pair of those ESL 57. Les was then an employee at KJ West One in New Cavendish Street where I had bought a lot of new hifi's after graduation to supply my friends and former fellow students. The good British brands at that time in Germany sometimes cost twice as much, Tannoy, Spendor, Rogers, Audiolab, Quad, Croft, Meridian, Roksan, Mission and others.
I had not earned much from it, only my travel expenses and each time three days easy living in London financed.

Les had later founded Walrus Hifi in New Quebec Street which unfortunately is over, and I was still in contact with him until 6 years or so ago, BTW this way when I followed the classifieds I got to know many different corners of London that you wouldn't always see as a tourist. This is hopefully not a thread drift hide
