There was an unrelated virus that was found to have originated in Australian Fruit Bats some years back. If I recall correctly there were few deaths and it did not develop beyond that despite a big scare at the time. If it had been more virulent we may have had a pandemic that started in Australia. Would you then blame the Australian government?

Really they are communist sympathisers from an alien species. It must be true there was an entire Panorama program on it, oh hang on that's the one I am writing for next week.
