I wouldn't be surprised in times of national emergency that an automatic protocol kicks in requiring the current Monarch and their successor to be well distanced from each other. It would be reasonable to assume that previous national emergencies would have related to wars and not pandemics where this large level of distancing would have made sense.
Well for the money they get & the life style we support it would be nice to see some leadership right now. Compare them in their palaces to Captain Moore walking his garden.
