I hope I'm not being overly sentimental here but I've just arrived back home after a cr*p day and seen something which made me feel a whole lot better.
I live almost next door to the village church and as I was putting the car in the garage I saw a local family putting flowers on their family grave. I know them well and since they are very much a 'service family' and have a member who is currently a major in Afghanistan I wondered if anything nasty had happened.
Turns out they were remembering a great uncle (who isn't buried in the grave but commemorated on it) and died in the D Day landings.
What I'd forgotten was that these took place 67 years ago today!
It might seem funny to say it but they were having a really good time- swapping stories and generally remembering someone who's memory meant a lot to them
Cheers,
G
