Right, well hats off to Brown and Gammons. Ordered the cylinders yesterday at 4pm and they arrived today at 9:40am.
So tried again. Fitted like a glove. Took the brakes shoes off, cleaned and copper greased the handbrake mechanism. Cleaned up the cracked feed in tube and dribbled a little oil inside then protected with self amalgamating tape.
Reassembly is a bit of a hassle but now I know how it fits, I have established a bit of a technique. Having messed up the spiral clip that holds the handbrake lever to the shoe, good old Eastern Auto Spares in Ipswich sorted me a suitable E clip that fits well.
So all back together, bled, and handbrake adjusted. I need to give it a run to try - the brakes feel more spongy than before. But then I am at a loss how it passed an MoT and the back brakes functioned at all. Both slave cylinders were rusted at both ends. I cannot move by hand or by G clamp and pliers.
I suspect I need to give the car a short run then re-bleed the brakes. I certainly heard the self adjusters click into place. So it will have to wait until I need to go into school again to laser cut yet more face shield parts for our mammoth endeavour of a face shield production line.
