As others have said, it can be done at the side of the road and as yours has been replaced recently probably the locking ring is not corroded into place yet. For the effort involved in changing it, the peace of mind once it has been replaced by a more reliable item and not having to carry the spare pump module and tools to change it, I would go for the preemptive change. If you wait for it to fail it will be at the worst time possible, it's one of those rules.
