Just had both mine replaced under warranty. Although I obviously didn't do the work myself, I understand both rack clamps have to be removed and the steering column connection to rack if replacing drivers side. The new gaiter(s) can then be slid over and secured. Remember to replace any of the thin grease that may have escaped from split gaiter. The trick is to re-secure everything in the original position so that steering wheel is correct position for straight ahead. Tracking shouldn't be affected as you don't need to touch track rods. Both mine were changed in under two hours.

I had already obtained a pair of universal fit gaiters and offered them to dealer to use if they were found to be superior to OE. Was told they found them more supple and fitted mine giving me their OE ones as spares.
