The motorcycle shop I've been talking to asked me how tight the belt was and what was the deflection. Don't know about the rest of you but my belt doesn't deflect at all. It's really tight. I'm wondering if that contributes to the aluminum sprocket wear? He said that the typical deflection on a motorcycle belt is 5/8" He's got a gauge that uses a weight to check that.
Morgan set up the drive belt tension VERY tight. They do this in an attempt to minimize vertical movement of the NVH mounted bevel box which can move quite considerably, especially on power take-up. A more usual/correct belt tension allows for a 45 degree twist of the belt.
As an aside, Supermax are insistent on their pulleys being used with a low belt tension.
