Having lived with my DRL's for a little while now I can recommend dedicated DRL bulbs in with the indicators. The bulbs here are quoted as 800 lumens each so very (very) roughly a 60 watt conventional bulb. The lamps have the additional benefit of forward pointing reflectors too so offer a very bright point light source when viewed directly from in front.

Anyway here are a couple of pics I had in my phone. I’ve bodged the DRL to be on with the main head light (dipped) for comparison. It’s difficult to show the real intensity.

Doesn't this arrangement obscure the visibility and effectiveness of the indicators? I have noticed that even a switch to clear indicator lenses on some cars seems to reduce their effectiveness, especially in bright sunshine.
