From about 1/2 way down this page you can see a T9 5 speed going into a 70’s 4/4. The key challenges are getting a clutch your comfortable with, speedo readings and the chassis cross bar that goes under the trans tunnel is tight. On CVH cars and later - MMC moves the re-enforcing bar to be welded on below the chassis frame. On the 70’s 4 speeders the slightly smaller casing allowed this bar to be the centre part of the tow board steel angle at the back of the foot wells.

There is a company I shared the link to some time ago who have re-engineered the Ford 4 speed into an alloy cased 5 speed unit with the same outer housing design and dimensions... so no need to shorten the prop shaft due to the elongated tail casing of the T9.
