80 quid indeed ! Or make a wooden spinner saver from laminated wood ? I've used one for years and they work perfectly providing you don't over tighten the spinners in the first place. Because they self tighten, they only need a few 'firm' taps with the wheels off the ground when refitting.

I have only had 3 punctures to-date in my entire motoring life (touching wood as I type) all happened on motorways in the wet , all the punctures on the drivers side, leaving me trying to change a tyre with passing lorries in the first lane within feet almost bowling me over as they pass. Not an experience I would recommend. So knowing my luck to-date, I'm looking for something that I can carry in the car, is safe to operate and keep me out of harms way as quickly as possible whilst changing the tyre and the thought of carrying a large homemade spinner tool or trying to hammer a spinner in say the wet whilst avoiding traffic passing slightly fills me with dread.
The home made wood spinners and/or a hammer are absolutely fine using them in the safe confines of one's garage for routine maintenance, but unfortunately that has not been my experience of where I get punctures. Fortunately I've just put new tyres on the car, it still had its originals whilst still legal were starting to perish, the tyre fitter had some difficulty getting the wheels off as the spinners were on really tight and broke lots of wood in the process, I would never have succeeded getting the wheels off if I had a puncture on those original tyres. which has caused me to reflect on finding the best value and easy use spinner tool for the job.
