Of our two horses, one would probably be fine if barefoot. The other would be in severe distress due to a confirmation issue that causes one of his hooves to have a weak sub-structure. Had this conversation on Monday with a barefoot "expert" who had to agree with me when she looked more closely at Teddy's feet.
Also, the UK's largest Horse Sanctuary has just over a 100 that are shod (out of around 1500) and they would not go to the extra expenses if it were not necessary.
