M12 is available with 1, 1.25, 1.5 and 1.75 mm pitch. Measuring the pitch over say ten thread peaks with vernier calipers then dividing will tell you the actual pitch on your stalk, if that helps. You can also confirm the thread major diameter which will likely be a tad less than 12mm for M12.
