Three safety measures are better than less! I remember a handbrake cable failing but managed to park on a slope using the kerb and gearbox to hold the car. Timing the steering with a hill start was ok.
I always leave the car in gear as well as hand-braked as a double check. At home in the garage I leave both free on the Mog as it is level and prevents brake seizing.
