1963 was when we had the big freeze here in S Wales. I remember playing ice hockey with sticks and a pebble on the nearby river that had frozen over. We had a nice shallow area so safe. The local reservoirs had a good thick layer of ice but water below had lowered so the ice had sunk in the middle. We were hoping to see it crack but didn’t venture out.
As for outdoor heating. Unless you have a BIG heat source you will need clothing. Think of it as a hell of a lot of draughts that take the heat away. The more enclosed the area is the less heating capacity needed.
You could always buy heated gilets. Think of it like a Morgan......hood down needs heater for the legs and warm clothes. Hood up = more snug and less warm clothes.
