I insert helicoils in newly machined alloy/magnesium castings as a matter of course.
Spent most of today machining up an Elektron backplate for my pre war racing motorcycle.
I used 1/2 x 20 tpi helicoil for the brake anchor bolt holes.
I also helicoiled a 205 GTI cylinder head in situ after ham-fisted rally mechanic had stripped the spark plug thread.
I've the complete range apart from 1/4 UNC....which I lent to a well known Morganist from Unstone would you believe?
