Over all impression is that they are for looks. Two grains of salt with that since it is the Internet and bitching about something is 14 times louder than anything else.The Blockleys were decent if you could get the tires within a year or two of manufacture. I had seen several instances of dates running on ten years which is illegal to sell in the states.
