If they can't get the holes to match the studs it would be a better solution to fit threaded sleeves. My bathroom light fitting uses threaded sleeves so it isn't rocket science.
The MGBGTV8 wheels used wheel-nuts which had a thick washer, and below that was a straight sided tube section, (part of the nut), which located (with a lot of slack) into holes in the alloy wheel centre, which do not have inserts. There was no tapered location at the centre. This was BL at it's best. In order to get some semblance of centralisation, I used to nip up with two MGB standard taper nuts, before fitting the real nuts. It was bad engineering.
