MMC has not done much other than to dump production of the car that sells so well and try something different
Seems like about the only sensible thing they could do to me. The V2 M3W seems to me to be, despite its undeniable visual styling attractions, a fundamentally flawed design that no amount of tweaking could fix at a sensible price.
I honestly don't think that MMC had much choice, there's no way the S&S engine is ever going to be clean enough or powerful enough, so moving to the 3-cylinder engine is a no-brainer really.
