If it is like the T16 it is very sensitive to air leaks. Check all the pipes for cracks. The ECU on the T16 monitors the inlet manifold pressure (vacuum) via a sensor in the ECO . A length of vacuum tube connects the ECU to the manifold. Oil from the PCV system can block the tube and foul the sensor. Remove the tube & ensure it is OK.
