Fancy sockets have got to be better than whacking it!
It does however seem to me to defeat the whole purpose of having eared spinners in the first place. They were specifically designed to be hit with a hammer to enable fast wheel changes.
If one prefers to use a socket wrench to avoid damage, a perfectly reasonable thing to want to do, then why not use the fasteners specifically designed for the job?
