If you look on the back of a home hifi/receiver there is usually a little plastic dipole for AM and the T shaped nasty long cable for FM. It is quite possible that the FM antenna is linked up and and AM one has been forgotten as virtually no one uses it these days (not meant in a rude manner) so may not have been tested?
