We had a batch of porous Austin Maxi cases, BL’s wonder fix (believe it or not) was to planish the area with a ball pein hammer!…. When common sense prevailed the ‘fix’ was to strip the unit, mega clean the inside of the gearbox case and rough grind the surface, not easy as no Dremel back then, then a skim of Belzona and leave for 48 hours before rebuilding.
A nice little earner when your working on a bonus scheme as it was a reasonably generous ‘book time’ job and we soon learnt the dodges. I certainly learnt how to pull those boxes up and down as I must have done a couple of dozen.
