That's not unknown in Yorkshire.

Somebody I worked with in the seventies had an electric meter in a cupboard in the hall with a rotating disc behind glass, remember those?
He discovered if he unscrewed it from the wall and laid it across the hall floor, the disc slowed right down.
He put it back for the meter man.


Also in the 70s, many old style gas meters had a steel vane.. put a big magnet on the case and the vane stopped..but the gas flowed.
For the electricity meter if the input and output were reversed the meter unwound..i'm told...

If you flip a gas meters connections (highly dangerous & illegal) it will run backwards, hence they now install with a metal bridge bracket across the top & a lead tamper seal

A sparky once commented that my old spinning disc leccy meter was highly valued because if we had solar PV it would wind the meter back in summer

Another trick was to drill a minute hole in the bakelite side and poke something against the disc to slow it
