As per a couple of other comments whilst you do need to take some opinions with a pinch of salt the key message is that to be truly environmentally sound the embedded cost to the environment of any solution must be considered against the target results and the unintended consequences - ideally mixed in with some global joined up thinking. I can't help thinking that it's not generally a good idea to let Perfect be the enemy of Good.
"EVs are not completely environmentally clean so I'm going to continue to drive my 16mpg gas guzzler" is not a strong argument in the current circumstances, especially if one lives in an urban or suburban environment.
