I used the fairly large open cell “foam” from an aquarium place. The original foam was smaller cell stuff and deteriorating. It was was fragile when I tried removing it to open up the heater for a check and clean up. The area has a rubber seal to isolate air intake away from under the bonnet and uses the rear louvres as a source.
