I don't have a lot of faith in HPI. I recently had to seize a stolen vehicle from an innocent purchaser who had bought it at auction with an HPI clear marker. When the poor chap approached HPI for redress their reply was sorry it hadn't appeared on the stolen vehicle list when we checked it so we are not paying out.
So basically their checks and guarantee are not worth the paper they are printed on.
